Message from the President
Alvin Guthrie
President of the Alumni Association
It is an exciting time to be a Centennial Grad and even more so to be an active alumni. The Centennial College Alumni Association (CCAA) has made many strides in the past few years and has gone to great lengths to offer you even more services. Our endeavor is to offer you, the graduates, the best alumni experience on the planet. Our aim is to provide solid benefits to alumni. Over the years it has become clearer that together, we can accomplish anything.
This year, we have continued to host our signature series of special events that appeal to a variety of alumni. Our outings covered a wide range of themes, including brewery tours, Canada’s Wonderland, Toronto Raptors basketball games, theatre shows, family events, a Caribbean land trip, as well as a Caribbean Cruise. These events have one goal in mind, to provide you with opportunities to stay connected and meet your fellow alumni. This year, we also conducted a feasibility survey to garner more information to serve you better. If you participated in this survey, I’d like to thank you for your contribution towards making CCAA the best that it can be. For more information on our upcoming events, visit us at ccaa.life and be sure to like us on Facebook at “The Official Centennial College Alumni Association” or follow us on Twitter and Instagram @centennialgrad.
I encourage you to stay connected by visiting our website to take advantage of some of the benefits already available to you. We are always looking for ideas and ways we can better communicate with you as well as celebrate the achievements of our alumni, so please take a moment to read about our honorees, what we’ve been doing and what awaits on the horizon.
I know you’ll be proud of what we’ve accomplished. Be sure to send any ideas for stories and ways you would like to see us working for you. I am resolved to remain totally committed to the responsibility the alumni members have entrusted to me, to ever remain inclusive and considerate of all and to continually pursue endeavors that provide first-rate services and opportunities for our over 165,000 strong Alumni.
If you’re interested in playing a more active role in the CCAA, please join us at our next Annual General Meeting on June 23, 2018. Make your voice heard and elect the alumni you think will best represent your interests. We are always looking for fresh faces and great ideas! Details are available on our website: ccaa.life. Email us at alumni@centennialcollege.ca and keep in touch! Centennial First, Alumni Forever!
Message from the President
ANN BULLER
President and CEO,
Centennial College
Every so often, I stop and reflect on my first year as President at Centennial. After several years on the East Coast, I was returning to an organization I knew and loved. It felt like a warm homecoming and, at the same time, the beginning of an incredible journey. The past 14 years have been filled with laughter, excitement and some extraordinarily challenging times. I wouldn’t trade these experiences for anything.
Sweeping changes have taken place since 2004. It is likely that half of you are reading this message on your smartphones, which was not the norm when I first came to the College. Today, we can access information with a simple tap or swipe of our finger. Technology is rapidly transforming the way that we live, learn and work. We are committed to providing our students with leading-edge programs and state-of-the-art facilities to ensure that we are preparing them for the world that awaits.
We have also seen a massive shift in our student population. When we first opened our doors in 1966, our Scarborough-based school mainly served the local community. Centennial is now recognized as one of the most diverse postsecondary institutions in Canada. Our reach is an increasingly international one, drawing students from around the world to study here with us. We provide students with a wide range of international learning opportunities, all designed to help them become leaders and global citizens.
It has been my privilege to shake the hands of thousands of our graduates over the years. They have told me about their hopes and dreams for the future, and about their commitment to making a difference in their communities and the world. It is rewarding to hear that their time at Centennial has been as life changing for them as it has been for me.
I am very proud of everything we have accomplished over the past 14 years. We remain committed to academic excellence, student success and community engagement, and continue to develop innovative programs and services to meet students’ needs. As a result, we are leading in quality measures across the board and are serving the largest number of students in the College’s history.
As our Centennial family continues to grow, I hope you will stay connected and share your stories with us. We have so much to celebrate, and even more to look forward to in the years to come.
